Snake River
Correctional Institution Yoga Program Handout / 6-24-06
John Close and Susan Havlina, SRCI Volunteers, have assisted the Siddha Yoga
Prison Project in Oakland California to donate the yoga mats
Madhu Mann Director of the Siddha Yoga Prison Project in Oakland California has
donated these yoga mats to the SRCI yoga program. Shawn Crabtree from Complex 1
wrote and asked if they could help provide hatha yoga mats for the classes here.
Madhu contacted John Friend from Anusara Yoga also and he indicated that he
would be willing to help in providing the mats. In the end however the mats 20
of the mats came from the hatha yoga department of the Siddha Yoga Ashram in New
York. The rest were donated by individuals in different Hatha Yoga classes in
the bay area. Madhu said, “An announcement would be made about needing the mats
for the snake river facility and people would donate. Sometimes they would roll
up the mat they were using and hand it over. It was very sweet. I will send a
message of thanks to everyone when you have the mats in the prison. Please pass
on our love and best wishes to Shawn and let him know that this all came to pass
from his simple request to us for a yoga mat.
Love Madhu”
